My smooth haired mini is almost 6 months and up til now has been so good going to bed at night in his crate. A good routine, early tea time and taking him out last thing to go to the toilet before settling down in his igloo :) for the night without a so much as a whisper. A few nights ago he started barking and whining after he went to bed and has been the same each night. He barks for up to an hour. Any ideas please? Is he going through adolescence and pushing boundaries maybe? He goes on one or two walks a day so I think he's getting enough exercise. He is very attached to me especially and does tend to follow me around the house. He seems quite content when we leave for work in the morning and I have some lovely neighbours who take him for a walk. Grandparents do the school run and are back at our house early afternoon. Any help/advise would be great. Thanks.
Just read your member interview...as soon as I saw "Dr Pepper" as a favorite beverage, I just knew you had to be from TX, before I even saw that you are! :D
Oh my gosh, I just saw this! My bookmark for the forum takes me to the page that shows all of the messages, not my user homepage.

But thank you! We actually got him from some friends who had bred their babies. We had decided that we wanted a dachshund and were going to be looking in shelters soon after, but then my friend said her girl was pregs, so it all kinda worked out :)
I just wanted to tell you that your pup is GORGEOUS! :) He's exactly what I'm looking for. Where did you find him?
Hello new friend! :D

I hope we get to chat sometime on the forum. It's so much fun having other people to talk to about dachshunds with. Thank you for saying hi!
I just saw a video on YouTube called dachshunds boogie. It is amazing, he is one smart doxi. He is really dancing with his owner and the Elvis music, you have to see this video, if you do, tell me what you think of it!!!!!!
So I need some input on Dooley jumping off furniture, especially the couch and bed. He has only done this once or twice because I keep my hands pretty close when he is sitting with me on both of them. However, he would jump if I didn't do that. Is it ok for them to jump? Should they never jump off furniture? I feel a panic when he is in my lap and starts for the edge. I usually lightly catch him before he jumps (as he is looking over) and tell him "No Jump". Not sure that registers. Anyone have any input?
Yes he is a handfull, so full of energy. Hes 8 months old but not housebroken. So its back to basics. Every hour we go outside :) He does fantastic. He is so loving and happy about people. And tooooooo cute.
Aww. Theo seems like a perfect addition to your family. :) So nice that you were able to adopt him!
Haha oh sorry! Theo is a new boy. We dont have rescues in sweden but he is one. Saw an add on Internet. He was brought back to his breeder after she heard from relatives that the new owner was harsh on him and didnt take him outside. He was skinny and afraind when she got him back. She didnt want to sell him off again but she visited us and wanted him to stay with us :) He is so happy! But full of energy! Sweetest thing. :)
Well, maybe someone else will take next month. If not, I'd consider it. Have you posted all your pics of your baby?

Hej! I just realized you guys have a new dachsie!!! You haven't started a new thread! shame on you. ;) Who is he? Did you adopt? How old is he?
I am new to this site and a new owner of an 8 wk old mini doxie named Aldous. I am so in love with him already but we are having a couple of issues.

1. I put a collar on him this morning and all he does is scratch. Normal?
2. I cannot get him to eat out of a bowl. It is plastic dog bowl, double sides. One has water the other food. He seems to only want to eat off of the floor. Any suggestions?
3. Potty training is,eh. Any suggestions on this?
Is there such a thing as a silky wirehaired dachshund. I am in the process of maybe buying one and wanted to know if it was legit.....thanks! I had a wirehaired dachshund before but it was not silky.
