Hey from Mx! Rescued a Doxie, his name is Watson and need some guidance!

Lol how cute on the baby bird...and on the not listening...well...he is a dachshund....so....lol. Even with perfect hearing, they are a very strong-willed breed.

    Shoes/booties?

I made some little boots for my guy, simply making a little sack from fleece, then I sewed in some double sided Velcro to hold them on. I also made him a few jackets out of an old fleece bath robe. Cut the sleeves off, cut leg holes, and the big fat cuff made a great "collar". Took about 10...

    Another potty question

She will go, I promise you. You just have to catch her when she needs to go. Watch her habits. If you can't find a schedule she goes on, (I never ever did find one No matter how hard I tried) then set a timer and take her out regularly, without fail. A slip or two and you will start all over...

    New member from michigan

Oh my goodness I laughed out loud at that description! I think our dogs may be related!! Nothing can be left within reach, and we do indeed have a desk leg he enjoys gnawing on if we don't keep him busy enough lol. He is such a handsome boy and I am so glad you are able to fully appreciate his...

Hey from Mx! Rescued a Doxie, his name is Watson and need some guidance!

Bless you for giving him a good home first of all. Since you don't know what kind of life he has had, it will take work, but be oh so worth it. I can say that I once had a rescue (not a doxie but still), that had been on a chain in one spot all his life. It took some serious rehabilitation to...

    Some very extreme separation anxiety

Do you have time to take him out for a good walk in the morning before you leave? Working off some nervous energy might be beneficial. It seemed to help with my Velcro dog. Also, I see that you have tried a lot if things to make him happy, how long have you tried them? If you introduce something...

    Hello again!

Long time, no...um...see :) Figured an update was in order on my Jasper. He is now almost 9 months old! His long hair is starting to fill out beautifully, his flag is fanning out...its exciting! He still hasn't learned what (or who) does and doesn't need barked at. Not much to be done there I...

    New! Food, Harness or Collar?

You will likely get suggestions all across the board here...that's a hot topic! I can say my basic suggestion would be as natural as possible! Most run of the mill companies have a lot of useless and sometimes harmful junk. Read labels, learn about ingredients. I used to home cook, but I have...

    Pet Insurance

I have thought about it a million times myself. I have read pros and cons. Some say it would be better to create a health insurance fund, like a savings account just for health care for your pet. Depending on how much you put back a week/month you could pretty quickly get quite a bit in a short...

    Puppy Drinking Water too Fast

I wouldn't think it would harm him, though maybe if you raised his water bowl up? Could be his drinking angle. Another possible option could be a water bottle (like the ones they use in crates). He would only be able to get out a limited amount at a time, more work for him.

Dachshund living with a guinea pig

I can't say for certain what will happen, but I can say that my mother has a rabbit that she keeps indoors, in an open-top pen on the floor. My guy showed mild interest in it initially, but once he was cautioned to back off when he seemed to get a k title keyed up while watching it run around...

Considering changing his name to Chewy. ;)

My guy loves Himalayan Dog chews, and rope toys I have braided out of old t shirts. He is a big chewer. On the exercise thing, mine doesn't give a hoot about balls, but I found some Angry Bird squeaky balls (they are soft like a squeaky toy so they stay put up when not in play). I have two. I...

    Dachshund foraging+eating it!

Sometimes I wonder why I feed mine lol. He is a forager as well. I have to keep an eye on him because he loves plants, sticks, and bugs.

Anyone think they can tell me what kind of coat this puppy will have?

Hmmmm....uneducated guess here but maybe that's a curl on the elbow? So maybe a long hair? Just a guess.

Update on my guy since I haven't been around for awhile

Really well, thank you! He makes me crazy just like a doxie should lol. He has hit his "faulty intruder alarm phase" (I am pretending it's a phase lol) so he barks and everything.... Inanimate objects... My reflection in the mirror... Sounds... People walking through the house... Lol. Working...
