Pumpkin Purée?

I have read about folks feeding their dachshund pumpkin purée. Wondering the benefit of this. Does it have to be pumpkin? I looked at the grocery store today just to see if we had any and all I could find was sweet potatoes.

People feed pumpkin because it's high in fiber so it will soften stool that's too firm and also help make loose stool more solid. You can open the can and put extra pumpkin into ice cube trays (bag when frozen) for another day.
