Question about playpen and crate lip heights

I am looking to adopt
Hi: I have had mini-doxies for about 30 years. I have none now but am on the lookout. Here is my question:

I've never used a crate or a playpen but plan to this time around. All the ones I've looked at via their ads have a bottom lip that needs to be stepped over to get in. There are no dimensions given but they look to be about 6" high from what I can tell. I hope I am wrong.
Anyway, would that be too tall for a mini-doxie to step over considering their short legs? Otherwise I'm not sure what to do except maybe just put them in myself. I would only be using it when I go on errands. I'm not one to take a dog everywhere I go. 😊

Thanks for your input.

I've never seen a crate with a 6" threshold. The ones I have are about 3 inches. The dogs do fine with them. If you are going to order online, I'd ask that question.

Hi: Thank you for responding. You gave me hope when you said you've never seen one 6". You are probably right. I've never seen any place where I could ask about dimensions when ordering online. Perhaps if there is a phone number at the time, I will call instead. Thanks for the info.

You're welcome. I actually measured one of my crates after I read your post. Six inches would be kind of tall for a small doxie.

OK, thanks. I was only going by a picture online, but if you say your crates are about 3" high maybe they all are. I did look at a crate picture in a feed store, and it looked high, but again it was just a picture. Maybe I can get someone to open one for me at Tractor Supply so we can measure. I appreciate your help.

Oh, if you know the name of your crate name or model, maybe I can look it up and get one of those knowing it's only got a 3" lip.

My crates are all really old. A couple of them had name plates on them. One was Precision Pet Products and the other was Midwest Pet Homes. I'm not sure if either of these companies is still around. I have no idea what the models are.

OK, Thanks for taking the time to look. I will look them up and perhaps get an idea. Thanks so much for the time you've given me.

No problem. It's always good to be able to help other dachshund owners

Let your dog sniff a dog treat and while you have his attention on the treat, toss the treat in the crate. Use lots of praise when he hops in and you close the door.
