Puppy Drinking Water too Fast

Hi All,

I am a new member to the forum, along with my 1.5 year old dapple, long haired mini dachshund Sam.

Just wanted to get your feedback on best ways to 'slow down' his water drinking. Regardless of how much water we give him, he drinks his water too excitedly and always ends up gagging on the water, which causes me to worry.

I wouldn't think it would harm him, though maybe if you raised his water bowl up? Could be his drinking angle. Another possible option could be a water bottle (like the ones they use in crates). He would only be able to get out a limited amount at a time, more work for him.

Try placing something inside of the bowl that would give him no choice but to slow down. You can use a large zip tie to secure it inside the bowl so he cannot remove it. How extremely frustrating for him, but after some time, he should slow down if only due to being forced to drink slower for a time. Try a baby play ball:
