Hi! Does anyone know how long it takes for a long-haired doxie to grow out their hair. My little one, Pippen, is a long-haired mini and only seems to have length on her butt and behind her ears. I have heard it can take 2-3 years for the hair to grow out. Any truth to this?

I have heard between 18 months and 3 years for the coat to come in fully. Many of the breeders that I talk to also say that for some bloodlines it can take less time for full growth to occur, others more time. I can't remember who it was that I was talking to, but they said that longies sometimes take longer to mature mentally and physically as well. Not sure how true that is, but I'm wondering if it's somehow tied to the growth of their hair.

Some back yard breeders mix short and long haired dogs, which is a big no-no in the reputable breeder world. It can have a huge effect on the coat.
