Hi everyone, I am a new member to this forum, I have two dogs a 2 1/2 year old dachshund x border terrier called Woody (or Mr Woods when he forgets to listen!) and a 5 month old red smooth hair dachshund girl called Connie (short for Miss Constance Lloyd). She is a real treasure, very well behaved, was clean in days and sticks to my side like glue! I cant believe how lucky I have been. I am hoping to add to my family some time soon with a clear red wirehair dachshund girl but they are very rare here in England so it may be a long wait. Would love to chat with other dachshund owners and am looking forward to reading all your posts.

Dachshund Colours

Hi Penny
Your tri colour dachshund looks really sweet, is this colour recognised by the Canadian Kennel Club? The Kennel Club in England does not allow any piebald or white markings, it is such a shame because they are so pretty.

Well they can be registered here, but they're not allowed to show them. The CKC is totally different in the way they work from the KC (modeled after the AKC, unfortunately)

And welcome! I have 2 Double dapple shorthairs with all the problems they come with :)

Thank you for your question! It is a shame, because other hounds like beagle and bassets have that pattern.
The white pattern for dachshunds is called piebald and they can be shown in Canada. Some judges in the States will dismiss a piebald from the ring, some will judge the dog with the rest that are entered. In Canada, one is free to show a piebald without discrimination.

This is Georgia. She is registered under the American Kennel Club (AKC) and was shown all over the States before coming to live with me in Canada. She is show quality, absolutely. By discouraging this pattern, the show breeders are somewhat staying away from it, but then the back yard breeders, who have no interest in showing or conformation, are offering piebald puppies to pet owners. This is not good for the breed, so it's sad to see all that work to make a lovely piebald over the years go to waste. The only winners are the back yard breeders who will charge extra for that 'hard to find' piebald puppy.

Georgia..

This is Georgia's last conformation win, in Canada with us...

Since piebald can be registered in both AKC and CKC, we can enter her into CKC events and last fall we were fortunate enough to attend an earthdog weekend. No ribbons there, she was having none of it, going down the scary hole. lol

What events can you enter your dachshund where you are? Do you have earthdog or field trials? If you've been attending, I'd love to see a new thread with photos!!

Hi Penny, your dog is beautiful! You don't see piebald dachshunds here at all. As you can see at the moment I am having trouble uploading any photos! lol. I haven't heard of any earth dog trials, what are they? we have the usual dog shows which are for confirmation and type, agility and obedience trials etc. My dachshund pup is just 5 months so still too young for the puppy classes (6 months+). I am not sure how much time I will get to show her as I work full time at the moment but I am very lucky as both my dogs come to work with me everyday, they have plenty of company and are very well socialised.

Thank you Gies! I am not that good at photography, but am trying to learn quickly as I would love to take better pictures of my dogs.

The worst thing is they don't sit still! lol You can guarantee soon as I get the camera out they turn into lunatics and the majority of my pictures are just a blur.

I must admit I've never sat down and read the camera instructions, so I guess that could help. lol!
