Help! My doxie sounds like a duck (with video)

Hi all,

First-time poster. We got our adorable Slinky a month ago from a rescue. He is reportedly a breeder from a puppy mill, is 6 years old and didn't have a great life before we got him (he only has 4 teeth left).

He's got a pretty clean bill of health according to our initial vet visit, but he does this quacking thing and we can't tell if it's (a) kennel cough, (b) reverse sneezing, (c) some other kind of disease, (d) just something he'll do forever and it's fine, (e) collapsing trachea or something else awful.

I tried watching videos of reverse sneezing, etc., but different-sized animals sound different when they cough and sneeze so I was hoping for a doxie-specific answer. For what it's worth he's a min (~10 pounds). Thanks!

For me that sounds more like cough than a reverse sneeze. I'd have him checked at the vet again. Sometimes dogs with a heart condition might cough, so I'd definitely check that also.

Slinky is so adorable! Well done adopting. :) I wish you all the best!
