Dog Night Before Christmas

A few years back, Libby and I wrote this for another dachshund group. Thought we would share it here to wish everyone Season's Greetings

T'was the night before Christmas
And all through the hood,
The puppers were sleeping,
They knew they'd been good.

Their humans were snuggled all tight in big beds,
After brushing their teeth and taking their meds.
So much to do before going to sleep,
Instead of just circling down in a heap.

Some stomping was heard high up on the roof
Dog noses and ears detected a hoof.
"Don't bark," they whispered, "That scares away deer.
If they run away, we'll get no treats this year.”

Then 36 hooves made a loud landing sound,
And a sigh of relief was heard from each hound.
"It's Rudolph! He's here,” they thought silently,
"He'll bring dog toys and treats, and for humans, a tree."

Pups crawled to places they knew they could view
Santa and Rudolph until they were through.
Tails waving in silence, with very big eyes,
They approved all the effort and each gift wrapped prize.

From Rudolph's mouth hung a small magic sack,
With toys for good doggies, he had to unpack.
His hooves bright and shiny, his antlers were small,
But his nose it illumined the room and the hall.

He left the dogs treats and some balls and some toys,
Then nodded at Santa, and making no noise,
They both left the house by means undetected,
Up through the chimney, most pups suspected.

A thump and a jingle they heard up above
And the sound filled the heart of each dog with pure love,
For Santa, and Rudolph, and humans upstairs.
They crept back to bed and forgot all their cares.
