Dexter isn't acting like himself! Need Advice...

Some treats I find are very salty which could explain why he went and drank a lot. Odd that he didn't warn you about wanting to go out like he normally does, but Leo doesn't it sometimes too (not when we are home, only if we leave him without making sure he has peed). If it is not a regular...

Doesn't enjoy his walks like before

You are in California, what is the temperature like there? You say he pants heavily, is this from heat or from a possible medical condition? A few months ago weather would have been much cooler then now, did you spend last summer doing longer walks? I know my Leo can go and go for 5 hrs or more...

??? Vet recommended me to stop cooking for my pupp!??!!!

If your dog have no health issues and is doing well on your home cooked there is no reason to switch. You may want to look into teeth cleaning (brushing or good chews)since moist food tends to get stuck in the mouth and speed up plaque production (kibble is usually just swallowed right down with...

    Concerned!!

Leo has pretty big salivary glands, but he has a slender head and neck so they just seem bigger then they really are. If they don't hurt your dog to touch them and he is not acting differently then I doubt there is any problem.

    Need Advice

I tried to get Leo involved in toys and balls but he is way more interested in squirrels and cats and critters, a high prey drive in him, toy's don't fool him.

    My red mini

How much outdoor exercise does she get? Aggression and anxiety can become worst if dogs are not getting proper exercise and physical/mental stimulation. Even little dogs need good outdoor walks at least once a day, going out into a yard is really only good for going toilet. Walks will also help...

Looks like he is guarding you from leaving by sitting on the huge stack of Kellogs conveniently located on the shoe bench :p

Does a mini long hair need a groomer?

Maybe you can find a groomer who can explain what needs doing so you can get a bit of confidence to do it yourself. Clipping feet fur and nails is a good idea as it prevents slipping on smooth surfaces. Getting a pro-grooming does look great, might make a nice X-mas holiday treat. I wouldn't go...

    need advice please!!!

What are you feeding him? It is possible he has developed food allergies, or it could be an allergy to something external. Have you been to the vet? Maybe they can run tests for skin disorders or allergies that might cause itchy scratchies.

    Physical Conditioning

walking is great exercise for dogs, even doxies. Dog's will typically go and go and not stop. If you are concerned it is too much or some areas are too rough you could bring a backpack to put him in.

    Our Alf has diarrhea

Give him some moist rice with bits of chicken, that usually helps plug dogs up and get some moisture into them. Leo had a bout of the runs a few weeks back, it happens.

    Jealousy

Go for more walks together, teach him tricks and do training together, feed him at least once a day if your hubbie wants to feed him the second meal then it is a good balance. Soon your dog will begin to look to you more for guidance. Most dogs will prefer their main caregiver over the...

Need advice from those who've raised a Dachshund Puppy

I wouldn't suggest getting a second dog when you are dealing with a 9 week old puppy. You are going to go through all sorts of stages in your first year, whining, crying, testing boundaries, chewing, refusal to listen, toilet training issues, anxiety issues. It is all part of growing up, your...

    Longhaired dashchund needs hair help!

my friend has a long hair with the same "buffalo fur" instead of sleek coat. It is probably he has a longer undercoat then top coat giving the fuzzy look.

    Dachshund Jackets :)

To prevent the coat spinning to 1 side you should try and make the back blanket wide so it wraps around the sides more. A stiffer fabric should help stop it flipping up in the wind. This is a style coat which works well but you have to keep away from too wet weather or modify the chest fabric...

    Back Issues

there is definitely predisposition in the breed for joint and disc issues due to being dwarves. On top of that there are other issues such as IVDD which are common in the breed and hereditary. This is why if you are picking a breeder it is exceptionally crucial to find one with no known history...

    Zephyr Mabelle

You can try to re-direct her onto a toy when she bites. You can also give a high pitched scream then ignore her for a few seconds then present a more appropriate chew toy. Also finding another older dog which will teach her appropriate mouth behavior will help, be prepared for her to get told...
